A major challenge for the centre is to develop new partnerships between universities and companies, new ways of working and cooperating that bridge the gab between existing disciplines and our projects. Ways of working that support sharing of knowledge across disciplines and projects as well as between university based research groups and partners from private enterprise. The model we are developing consists of a number of research areas, of labs with research facililties and of projects. Some research areas are well-established, like Object Technology, some are emerging like Pervasive Healthcare. Each area is headed by a research manager.

The labs are, as already indicated, a concrete way of encouraging cooperation across traditional boundaries and thus supports the development of mutual understanding and strengthens the basis for synergy and creativity. Most of the work in the centre is organised as projects involving both companies and universities. Many projects cut across research areas and practically all projects involve several traditional research disciplines.
